The Spider Ring 2007

To promote Baen Books' new trade paperback, The Spider: Robot Titans of Gotham Argosy Communications, Inc., owner of The Spider, has revived the most cherished premium of the Pulp era!

Baen has distributed roughly half of the 4,000 rings to booksellers through mailings (starting in February) and at BookExpo America. The new Spider Ring recently made its public debut at the Windy City Pulp and Paper Show in Chicago, May 4-6, where an exclusive allotment of fifty rings were distributed to alert attendees. Pulp fans then got another shot at PulpCon, July 5-8 in Dayton, Ohio.

Now 1,500 Spider Rings are coming to San Diego Comic-Con, July 26-28! To get your FREE ring, simply go to Bud Plant Comic Art, Booth #1500, just inside the entrance to Hall B. Bud is a huge supporter of Pulp reprints and art books, and this association will ensure The Spider Ring makes it into (and onto) the right hands!

The ring was designed by Chris Kalb (creator of this site) who coordinated its manufacturing as well. The enameled face is inspired by the original Spider Ring, only it has the name of The Spider's 70-year-old club engraved around its border to better evoke "decoder rings" of the past. All involved hope this new classic premium will get the audience for Robot Titans into the proper Thirties frame of mind.

Rings are being distributed at the discretion of Argosy and Baen and, sadly, cannot be obtained by emailing Chris.
